3. What is the Cadet Program?
The Canadian Cadet Movement is the largest federally funded Youth Program in Canada, with 55,000 Cadets across Canada, in Sea, Army, and Air units, with ~25,000 Air Cadets alone.
Our membership is open to all Canadian youth 12 to 18 years old.
Cadets are NOT part of the Canadian Forces, nor are they expected or required to join.
The three aims of the Canadian Cadet Movement are:
Develop good leadership and citizenship among youth
Develop physical fitness among youth
Foster an interest in the activities of the Canadian Armed Forces

4. Cadet Program Principles
There are 5 Principles that guide all of our activities and training in the Cadet Program:
Invite all Canadian youth
Instill Canadian Military Values
These include duty, loyalty, integrity, courage, stewardship and excellence and respect
Develop citizenship, leadership and fitness
Balance safety and challenge
Leave a positive lifelong impact

6. Parade Nights
A Parade Night is our weekly training night. Cadets form up, are given instructions for the evening, conduct the activities, and then form up at the end of the evening for closing announcements.
We meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 pm to 9:00 PM in Building 275 on 5 Wing Goose Bay. We have a bus available to pick up and drop off the cadets.
On a any given Parade Night Cadets may be involved in:
Learning about Aviation and Aeronautics subjects
Learn about Canada’s role in significant historical events
Learn about the Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian Forces
Participate in sports, fitness, leadership, and team activities
Participate in drill and ceremonial activities

7. Mandatory Supported Training
Some of our training takes place during weekend activities.
These weekend activities include:
Field Training Exercises (similar to camping)
Familiarization Flights
Sports Activities
Marksmanship Days (air rifles)
Additional training for senior cadets (leadership, instructional)
Annual Ceremonial Review
Participation is local community events such as Remembrance Day Parades, Concerts, etc…

Flight simulators

There are a large number of paid summer training activities available.
Summer Courses are available in:
Music Training
Sports and Fitness
Drill and Ceremonial
Marksmanship
Survival Skills
General Training course
Gliding and Power Pilot programs

10. The Cadet Program is a partnership!
The Royal Canadian Air Cadets are a federally funded youth program, jointly administrated by a civilian organization, the Air Cadet League, and the Canadian Forces. The responsibilities are defined in a Memorandum of Understanding.
Some of the Canadian Forces Responsibilities are:
Administering and running the Program
Provide CF Officers and Civilian Instructor Staff and their training
Providing cadet uniforms and training materials
Running Cadet Training Centres
Some of the Air Cadet League Responsibilities are:
Local fundraising activities for extracurricular activities
Recruiting cadets, additional staff, and volunteers
Providing local training facilities and support as required

11. What does the program cost?
The Royal Canadian Air Cadet Program is jointly funded by the Department of National Defence, in partnership with the Air Cadet League of Canada (ACL).
The program is free to join and every Cadet receives a uniform at no cost. The uniform must be returned upon leaving the Cadet program.
There may be various optional activities that occur throughout the year that costs may be associated with and you may be expected to provide lunches or snacks for some weekend activities. We try to keep these to a minimum.

CF-1158 Application for Membership Cadets
In some cases, the DND2570 Detailed Health Questionnaire.
You also require Proof of Canadian citizenship or Canadian Residency
(such as a passport, birth certificate, or citizenship card) and a valid Health Card.
