Undergraduate Research Certificate Program Objective (Phase I, objective 5): Develop a research certificate supported by formal research training opportunities, internships, research experiences, and a high standard expected on verbal and written communication. Goals: Provide students with a planned sequence of courses and creative activities to support their systematic development as undergraduate researchers and prepare them for graduate school. Encourage and recognize students who devote portion of their undergraduate education to extracurricular research and creative activities. Make undergraduate research and creative performance a seamless part of the academic culture at the institution.

Requirements for Certification Four (4) terms of inquiry-based research in lab or field setting (summer is considered as 2 terms) 2 courses (or 6-credits) focused Quantitative Methods in Research (e.g., Calculus I; Intro to Statistics) 2 courses (6-credits) focused on Research Methods (e.g., Research Design and Methodology) 1 course (3-credits) in Scientific Writing and Communication (e.g., Technical Communication) 1 course (3-credits) focused on Science and Society (e.g., Philosophy of Science; Ethical Theory) 4 instances of written and oral presentation of research
