Roadmap for the rest of Daniel Daniel chapters 10-12 make up a larger unit revolving around one final vision. Daniel 10: introduction to Daniel’s final vision Daniel 11:1-12:4: Daniel’s final vision Daniel 12:5-13: God’s instructions to Daniel

Summary of Daniel 10 1. Daniel is in prayerful mourning: 10:2-4: “2 In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three weeks. 3 I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks. 4 On the twenty- fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river (that is, the Tigris)….”

Summary of Daniel 10 1. Daniel is in prayerful mourning: Daniel 10:12: “12 Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words.”

Summary of Daniel 10 Daniel is in prayerful mourning: A heavenly being approaches Daniel: Daniel 10:5-6: “5 I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. 6 His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude.”

Summary of Daniel 10 Daniel is in prayerful mourning: A heavenly being approaches Daniel: This heavenly being offers comfort and understanding:

Summary of Daniel 10 Daniel 10:10-12: “10 And behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. 11 And he said to me, ‘O Daniel, man greatly loved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for now I have been sent to you.’ And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling. 12 Then he said to me, ‘Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words.’”

Glimpses of a heavenly war Daniel 10:12-14: “12 Then he said to me, ‘Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words. 13 The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty- one days, but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia, 14 and came to make you understand what is to happen to your people in the latter days. For the vision is for days yet to come.’”

Glimpses of a heavenly war The promise of hope in this heavenly war: “20 Then he said, ‘Do you know why I have come to you? But now I will return to fight against the prince of Persia; and when I go out, behold, the prince of Greece will come. 21 But I will tell you what is inscribed in the book of truth: there is none who contends by my side against these except Michael, your prince.’”

What do we make of this heavenly war?

What do we make of this heavenly war? The place of ideas in this spiritual war:

What do we make of this heavenly war? Genesis 3:1-5: “Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, ‘Did God actually say, “You shall not eat of any tree in the garden”?’ 2 And the woman said to the serpent, ‘We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, “You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.”’ 4 But the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.’”

What do we make of this heavenly war? Ephesians 6:11: “11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” John 8:44: “When he [Satan] lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

How we fight in this war Ephesians 6:10-18: “10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.”

How we fight in this war Ephesians 6:10-18: “14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints….”

How we fight in this war Immerse ourselves in the truth: Ephesians 6:14 ”Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth….”

How we fight in this war Immerse ourselves in the truth: Believe the truth: Ephesians 6:16: “…take up the shield of faith….”

How we fight in this war Immerse ourselves in the truth: Believe the truth: Be diligent in discerning the truth: Ephesians 6:18: “…keep alert….”

How we fight in this war Immerse ourselves in the truth: Believe the truth: Be diligent in discerning the truth: Stand with others in the truth:

The highest truth to remember

The highest truth to remember Colossians 2:15: “15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.”
