Presentation transcript:

Areas of Parallelograms and Trapezoids Objective: Learn to find the area of parallelograms and trapezoids.

Formula for parallelogram: To find the area of a parallelogram you must multiply the base times the height. Find the area of each parallelogram. Formula for parallelogram: Area = base × height or A = b × h Example 1 : A = b x h A = 8m x 6m A = 48 cm2

Formula for trapezoid: Area = (base 1 + base 2) × height To find the area of a trapezoid you have to add the two bases, multiply by the height, and the result divide it by two. Find the area for each trapezoid. Formula for trapezoid: Area = (base 1 + base 2) × height 2 A = (b1 + b2)h A = (b1 + b2) x h 2 A = ( 6m + 3m) x 4m 2 A = 9m x 4m A = 36m2 A = 18m2

Your Examples Example 2: Find the area of the Trapezoid. Example 1: Find the area of the parallelogram: Example 2: Find the area of the Trapezoid.

Homework: Find the area of each trapezoid. Find the area of the parallelograms.
