16 Hour Rule A driver can work one day a week 16 hours if the following apply: Driver must return to the work reporting location at the end of that work day as well as the previous 5 work duty days Driver must be released from duty within 16 hours after coming on duty Driver must only use this exception once in any 7 consecutive days. The 34-Hour Restart provision can be used to restart the 7/8 day record. Drivers may not use this provision if they qualify for the Non-CDL Short- Haul Provision (395.1(o)).

34 Hour Restart The 34 hour restart allows drivers to reset their 60 or 70 hour rule without using the hourly recap.

When does the 60 or 70 hour rule apply? If your drivers run 7 days a week the drivers can run 70 hours in 8 days. If your drivers run less than 7 days a week they can only run 60 hours in 7 days.

30 Minute Break A driver must take a 30 minute rest break for every 8 hours worked. The 8 hours starts when a driver starts the shift on line 3 or 4. The 30 minute break cannot be combined with an on duty function such as fueling. Local drivers are not required to log a break.
