Lesson 5 Proper Nouns

Proper Noun Proper nouns are always capitalized They are words that name a particular person, place, or thing Example: Mount Rushmore The Gettysburg Address War of 1812

Capitalizing Historical Events and Documents The names of important historical events and documents are also proper nouns and should be capitalized Example: A war: the American Revolutionary War A document: the Declaration of Independence

Capitalizing Titles Titles of: books, stories, and essays are proper nouns (always Capitalized) Do NOT: capitalize small words (and, of, and the), unless they are in the title Example: Book: Treasure Island Story: “Old Stormalong and the Octopus”
