NVBDC Veteran Business Certification

NATIONAL VETERAN BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL

The National Veterans Business Development Council (NVBDC) is a nonprofit 501c3 organization offering a third-party private sector certification of veteran owned businesses in the United States.

Businesses have demanded a reliable third party source to certify Service Disabled and Veteran Owned Businesses (SD/VOBs) to the same standards as the NMSDC and WBENC

The NVBDC is the certification entity-of-choice for Veterans and Service Disabled Veteran suppliers and the Corporations, Federal and State governments wanting to engage them.

BACKGROUND 3% ($15B) mandated to veteran owned businesses In 2015, the federal government spent more than $500B 3% ($15B) mandated to veteran owned businesses 3% of the money spent by corporate America: exceeds $80 billion each year

WHY NOW There are 22 million Veterans in America, 2.5 million Veteran Business Owners. Need to ensure today’s Veterans have the opportunity to work with Corporations by providing them and their businesses with a Certification program that America’s Corporations will accept and the Veterans will be proud to earn. Overall goal: to redeploy America’s Veterans and help them create their own businesses and add to our nation’s competitiveness. The NBVDC is the certification body for SDVOB/VOBs to ensure that credible documentation exists of a business' Veteran status, ownership and control.

What we provide to Corporate America: ACCESS TO SPECIFICALLY DESIGNATED VETERAN OWNED BUSINESSES (SD/VOB) DATABASE HAVING BEEN CERTIFIED BASED UPON PROVEN: 1. VETERAN ELIGIBILITY 2. LEGAL OWNERSHIP 3. OPERATIONAL CONTROL

What Exists Today? The Government controlled Center for Veteran Enterprise (CVE) does not verify MEDIUM or LARGE companies, thereby denying them a formal Veteran Business recognition. This prevents some of the most successful businesses, including Minority and Women Owned businesses that are also Veteran owned, from being certified as Veteran owned. The NVBDC certifies all SIZES of Veteran Businesses. The NVBDC provides these services to our SD/VOBs and work with Industry to support their strategic initiatives by following the Billion Dollar Roundtable Supplier Diversity Best Practices manual.

NVBDC ACCOMPLISHMENTS Created a "gold standard" certification program Built and maintains a searchable database and a corporate membership program Launched a multi portal website with ability to post RFP/RFQs Published Standards and Procedures guidelines Advocates and Promotes Supplier Diversity Secured corporate funding to support startup and programming costs

NVBDC KEYS TO SUCCESS Public and Corporate support for veteran issues A singular national organization Public and Corporate support for veteran issues Expanding existing relationships and establishing new ones with government agencies and corporations Veteran acceptance of requirement for Certification Recruitment of critical staff members Creation of a national trained on-site assessors program

CERTIFICATION Certification consists of both owner and business documentation and a site visit to the business A site visit is necessary to validate the application and confirm actual work facilities, equipment and company assets. Certification should be determined within 60 calendar days of receiving a completed application. An appeal process is available

CERTIFICATION RECIPROCITY The NVBDC will accept NMSDC, WBENC, CVE and NGLCC certification We are working on agreements that they will reciprocate with acceptance of our certification program. Developed a Fast Track Application process for SDVOB/VOB’s who hold certification from a recognized certification organization.

FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS Operational Funding: for hiring staff and processing costs. Corporations who desire to become Founding members and, as such, demonstrate leadership and commitment to the cause of SD/VOB’s. Secondary source: Veteran business owners, foundations and individuals who also desire to demonstrate their support by becoming charter supporters.

Corporate Commitments Major Corporate Partners have committed several billion dollars in spend with Veteran Owned Businesses. GM, Ford, AT&T and Kellogg's are just a few of the companies who have formally set SD/VOB goals for 2016. Ford announced $1.1 BILLION in SD/VOB spend in 2015
