For example, typing Abraham Lincoln filetype:docx would only return results of 2013 MS Word™ documents. Try using the following file types and record the number of results. ppt (PowerPoint), xls (Excel), pdf (Adobe). If time permits, introduce students to another search operator, the “file type” operator. 1. Explain that the “file type” operator limits search results based on a specific file type. For example, “file type:docx” would only return results of 2013 MS Word documents. 2. As an extension activity, you can have students perform two or three “file type” searches on a list of topics you create or let the students decide which types. 3.
