1 FS Online Module Teacher's Manual
Think about this. . . Everyone has failed at something! The purpose of this module is to help students gain valuable experience using mind mapping graphic organizers. Students will engage in a guided practice activity while exploring the topic failure. Students will learn how failure can lead to succeeding if they are able to learn the necessary skills for managing failure and having a positive mind. Instructors says: Everyone has failed at something. Which means we all have a failure platform. That platform is consists of all the times we believe we may have failed at something. Each experience left us with the ability to do something, maybe even do it better or to do something in a different way. © Copyright, Johns Hopkins University. All Rights Reserved. Tell students: Let’s try and retrieve a failed experience we may have had in our life. Think about something you believe is was a failure. Don’t say anything out loud. The instructor should also complete this activity along with the student(s). When the timer begins, students will write non-stop about the experience. Explain that this type of writing is called a “brain drain,” and it is intended to drain one’s brain of thoughts about a particular topic or subject. In this case it will be recalling a failed experience. Press the icon to set the online timer for three minutes. When everyone has completed allow the students to self-select a partner or two people to share their entry with. The teacher should participate too.
