Ambassadors: Schools Recruitment We have signed up to work in partnership with Skills Development Scotland on a project to establish My World of Work Ambassadors in our school We are now recruiting for the next school session

What is My World of Work? Award-winning career information and advice web service. Helps you to make informed decisions about your future Packed with tools and resources such as CV builder Real-life job profiles so you can find out what a career’s really like Dedicated resources for teachers and parents Just a quick reminder of what My World of Work is: My World of Work provides expert information and advice on careers and is designed to help users to make informed decisions about their future.  Users can explore who they are and what jobs they’re best suited to. They can discover industries and related careers, see jobs in action, build a CV and research employment and training opportunities. It is used by people at all stages of their career and also has resources for parents and teachers who are supporting young people with those big career choices.

My World of Work Ambassadors: Schools What is it? The aim is to establish My World of Work Ambassadors in schools who will promote the resources available on the careers web service to others while gaining valuable experience and skills that are transferable to the world of work Watch the video to find out more from Skills Development Scotland > What is the My World of Work Ambassadors Project? Skills Development Scotland has developed this project in collaboration with a number of schools across Scotland It is designed to promote My World of Work in the school, while providing an opportunity for pupils to develop employability and career management skills that can be used in their future education and working lives The aim is to have volunteer Ambassadors who act as champions for the My World of Work web service, helping spread the word of the resources available on My World of Work and the help it can offer to pupils, parents and teachers.

Learn it Sell it Use it What will My World of Work Ambassadors do? Learn all about My World of Work using learning resources such as videos, user guides and factsheets Build up your My World of Work Account by recording experience and skills gained on the project Promote the features and benefits of My World of Work through school events, news articles and social media So what will My World of Work Ambassadors be expected to do? Ambassadors take part in a project to promote My World of Work to pupils, parents, teachers ....and maybe friends and family too! To do this Ambassadors will Learn it – i.e. find out all there is to know about My World of Work using resources provided by Skills Development Scotland Use it - to build up a more detailed profile with all the valuable experience and skills gained throughout the project Sell it – to others by demonstrating the features and benefits in a way that is personal to them A major part of of the project is to plan and organise events for different users of My World of Work. <continue to next slide>

Ambassadors promote My World of Work to: My World of Work Ambassadors Ambassadors promote My World of Work to: Pupils Parents Teachers Events for Pupils that Ambassadors might support are: -Assembly talks -Classroom activities and 1to1 individual support -Careers days -P7 transition Events for Parents might involve a demo of My World of Work at: -Parents information evening -Parent/Teacher council Events for Teachers might involve a demo of My World of Work for: -In-service day training -Individual teachers who want to include careers information related to the subject they teach

Get experience of the top transferable skills employers want* Working as part of a team to raise the profile of My World of Work in your school Planning and organising events to demonstrate the features and benefits of the service Communicating with people to encourage pupils, parents and teachers to use it Finding solutions to problems The Ambassadors project is built on the top transferable skills employers want (a reference taken directly from My world of Work) Ambassadors will get experience of all of these skills -Working as part of a team on a real live project to promote My World of Work in the school -Planning and organising events for pupils, parents and teachers -Communicating with people when demonstrating the service to others -Finding solutions to problems by thinking ahead to what problems might arise and looking back at lessons learned from previous events -Taking the lead on project tasks that match your current skills, strengths and interests. Ambassadors can also choose to lead on activities which they feel will help them with their own personal development. Build additional evidence of wider achievement Contribute to SQA Wider Achievement Awards, e.g. Personal Development, Employability, Leadership Contribute to Volunteering Awards, e.g. Saltire Award, Duke of Edinburgh, etc Build your profile of employability skills for Personal Statements, CVs, Applications and Interviews Where pupils are working on wider achievement awards, participation on the Ambassadors project can help to supplement the evidence needed. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer / take part / help others / organise stuff / and play a leading role on activities on the Ambassador project so the experience gained can be useful for anyone completing a Wider Achievement Award.
