3 Introduction Choosing subjects is an important time for S2/3 secondary school pupils across Scotland and our Skills Development Scotland Careers Advisers in schools are busy providing a programme of support at this time to help young people make informed choices. To ensure parents, carers and young people are aware of the help and support on offer a promotional campaign will be running throughout January and February. The campaign comprises of digital advertising, social media content, media coverage, and partner engagement through schools. Within this toolkit you’ll find ideas about how you could support the campaign. Thanks in advance!

4 Our support at subject choices time
Groupwork sessions and one-to-one meetings. Delivered by our Careers Advisers in school, young people are encouraged to think about how subject choices relate to careers, and are offered advice on choosing the right subjects for them. Parents, carers and teachers can also join the one-to-one meeting. A new Subject Choices magazine for pupils. Distributed by Careers Advisers, the magazine provides lots of hints and tips about making choices. Action Plan for My World of Work. An Action Plan for Scotland’s careers website My World of Work has been designed to help young people prepare. The plan is referenced in the magazine and also available from the site at myworldofwork.co.uk/subjectchoices Subject Choices magazine

Help inform young people and their parents/carers about the Action Plan at myworldofwork.co.uk/subjectchoices Help inform parents/carers about the information on our service as well as specific help and advice for them on subject choices at options/choosing-school-subjects-advice-parents

Subject choices - helping you choose Your subject choices at school can have an impact on what you can study at college or university and what jobs you can go for in the future. Help is at hand though from Skills Development Scotland. Your Careers Adviser in school can help you think about the right subject choices for you. You can meet with them to discuss your choices and if you like, you can also bring along your parents/carer or a teacher.
