Presentation transcript:

Weather The condition of the atmosphere at a given place

Humidity The amount of water vapor in the air

Air Pressure The weight of the atmosphere pressing down on the Earth’s surface

Barometer A weather instrument used to measure changes in air pressure

Wind The movement of air from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure

Global Winds Winds that blow over large areas of Earth – they blow from the tropics toward the poles

Local Winds Winds that move short distances and can change directions

Anemometer a tool that measures wind speed

Wind Vane A tool that measures wind direction

Sea Breeze Cooler, high-pressure air that flows over the water to the land

Land Breeze Cooler, high-pressure air that flows from the land to the sea

Cirrus Clouds Thin, cold clouds made up of ice crystals

Stratus Clouds Thick, wet looking clouds that cover the sky with a sheet of gray

Cumulus Clouds Puffy, white clouds that usually form in the afternoon on hot, sunny days
