2 Temperature Measures heat energy. Uses a thermometer

3 Air pressure Due to the weight in the air, determined by temperature.
Measured with a barometer.

4 Wind Speed How fast the wind is blowing. Measure with an anemometer.

5 Precipitation Rainfall Measured with a rain gauge.

6 Front Boundary between air masses of different temperatures and humidity. Look for the following symbols on a weather map.

7 Cumulus Cloud Fluffy and white, flat bottoms, get larger and darker means thunderstorms.

8 Cirrus Cloud Feathery clouds, fair weather, rain or snow several hours.

9 Stratus Cloud Smooth gray clouds that cover the sky, light rain and drizzle.

10 Thunderstorm Caused by unstable air, produces thunder and lightning.

11 Hurricane Huge storm, forms over warm ocean water that has a cooler air temp.

12 Tornado A violent storm, extending from a cloud to the ground.

13 Rain Air rises from mountains, low pressure, cold fronts.

14 Snow Water vapor changes to ice at 32 °F and falls.

15 Sleet Rain droplets that freeze before hitting the ground.

16 Hail Water droplets get caught in a thunderstorm and pushed up till they form ice.
