Facts of Life Between 400,000 and 500,000 students drop out of school each year. 40% to 60% of those students are Black. Black students continue to receive the LOWEST academic grades in English, Math, and Science compared to any other group.

Facts of Life BLACK students consistently receive the LOWEST scores on the SAT and ACT college entrance examinations. Approximately 3% to 5% of BLACK parents ever visit their child’s school after elementary grades.

Facts of Life Black children are more likely to live in poverty, in single-parent households, and live in urban areas. Black children are more likely to show early academic and behavioral problems. Gaps in academic performance persist from elementary through high school in all subject areas of study.

Facts of Life Black students are more likely to repeat a grade. Black students are less likely to enroll in college and complete a baccalaureate degree. Blacks are less likely to enroll in college immediately after completing high school.

Fact of Life Black girls continually outdistance boys in most academic areas. Black girls outnumber boys in collegiate settings.
