Communication Technology II/III Safety and Health Screen Printing Process

This week’s schedule Monday Review/Retake of Part 1 Safety Exam Tuesday Review/Take Part II of Safety Exam Wednesday Review/Take Part III of Safety Exam Thursday/Friday Review/Take Part IV of Safety Exam If you have passed Part I of Safety Exam – start reading Chapter 20

Essential Question: What are the safety precautions one must take when working in a graphic shop. I will be able to define all safety precautions in a graphic shop.

Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 Bell work: Explain fire prevention and safety precautions and appropriate practices for extinguishing fires. (4-6 sentences) I will be able to define all safety precautions in a graphic shop.

Standards 05.0 Demonstrate safe and appropriate use of tools machines, and materials in communications technology. Students will 05.01 Select appropriate tools, procedure and/or operation of equipment needed to produce a product. 05.02 Demonstrate the safe usage of appropriate tools, procedures, and operation of equipment needed to manufacture a product. 05.03 Follow LBORATORY SAFETY RULES ANDPROCEDURES 05.04 Demonstrate good housekeeping at workstation within total laboratory. 05.05 Identify color-coding safety standards. 05.06 Explain fire prevention and safety precautions and appropriate practices for etingushing fires. 05.07 Identify harmful effects/potential dangers of familiar hazardous substances/devices to people and the environment.

Learning Objectives Recall the purpose of a plant safety and health program Explain t he importance of machine guards and personal protection Apply the safe handling of materials, tools, and equipment, a s well as proper techniques for lifting. Identify the correct handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and other materials. Explain plans for fire prevention within a plant. Summarize an ergonomically correct computer workstation. Explain ways to reduce and eliminate waste f or environmental compliance.

Tuesday – September 19, 2017 Bellwork: Explain ways to reduce and eliminate waste for environmental compliance. (4-6 sentences) I will be able to define all safety precautions in a graphic shop.

Mechanical Hazards There are any on-the-job physical injuries are the result of mechanical hazards that can be controlled if: Machines are properly guarded. Energy isolating devices are locked out and tagged during maintenance. Workers properly use personal protective equipment Workers area trained to handle materials, tools and equipment safely.

Safety & Health Program The purpose of safety program is to recognize, evaluate, and control potential hazards in the work place.

Important Terms Barrier guards Decibels (dBA) Ergonomics Lockout devices Machine guards Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) Nip points Personal protective devices

Wednesday, September 20, 2017 Screen Printing Essential Question: What are the advantages of the screen printing process? Bell work: Compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of screen printing. I will be able to identify and describe the advantages of the screen printing process.

Learning Objectives

Standards 20.0 Demonstrate and understanding and application of the various approaches used in problem solving. The student will be able t o: 20.01 Research a problem and determine the most appropriate problem-solving method to employ functional, economic, and ethical viability of a project. 20.02 Utilize a multiple approaches to solving technological problems. 21.0 Demonstrate abilities to apply the design process – the student will b e able to: 21.02 Identify the criteria and constraints associated with a communications esign problem and selec the most appropriate solution based on these factors. 21.03 Evaluate the quality, efficiency and productivity of an existing or proposed design and refine the design accordingly. 21.07 Apply and evaluate the design process pertaining to a design solution.

Thursday September 21 Portfolio Project 1 – Begin the research for this project. Project Due Date: October 12
