Presentation transcript:

On a new page miss out the top two lines and list… as many different reasons to pray as you can think of

What is prayer? How do we pray? Why do we pray?

Why do people pray? Why do you pray? Jesus told us to Because God will answer For comfort For advice To say thank you To say sorry To say please To ask for prayer

Luke 11:1-5 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples."   He said to them, "When you pray, say:     " 'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.   Give us each day our daily bread.   Forgive us our sins,       for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.     And lead us not into temptation.' " Then he said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend, and he goes to him at midnight and says, 'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him.' BACK

Jesus and Prayer Jesus told us that we should pray to God and he showed how to pray by giving us the Lords Prayer. Look at the Lords prayer below and note: What are the main things that Jesus talks to God about/says to God? Focus on please, thank you, sorry. What are we saying please for, thank you for and sorry for? " 'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.   Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins,   for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.    And lead us not into temptation.' "

Our Father (God is like a father who loves us and guides us). Who art in heaven (God is in heaven) Hallowed be your name ( We worship you) Your Kingdom come ( I want what you want to happen on earth) Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (I want earth to be like heaven) Give us this day our daily bread (Please give us what we need to live) Forgive us our trespasses (forgive us for what we have done wrong). As we forgive those who trespass against us (and help us to forgive others) Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil (Help us to avoid evil and to resist temptation) Amen (I think so too)

How do people Pray? What else could it be? What could this be a picture of instead? What else could it be? What could this be a picture of instead? What does this tell you about prayer?

How do people Pray? We can speak to God…. God can speak to us… …directly and out loud. …directly, with spoken prayer. …through our thoughts and feelings. …with prayers in our heads. …through the teachings in the bible. …with prayers we write down, or others write for us. …through the teachings of the church …through other people. …with the songs we sing.

Questions (To be answered in full sentences) Why do people pray? (4 reasons) How do people pray? (4 ways) Write a prayer. In the prayer you must: ask God for something thank God for something saying sorry for something How else could you have prayed this prayer? What is your favourite way to pray (if you do not like praying then explain why not)

Luke 11: 9-11 "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. "Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" BACK
