Notes le 26 octobre Making Singular Nouns Plural Remember that the definite articles in French (le, la, l’, les) all mean THE. le garçon = the boy la fille = the girl l’école = the school les élèves = the students

To make a singular noun plural, change the article from le, la, l’ to les and add an s to the end of the noun. le garçon → les garçons la fille → les filles l’école → les écoles

Remember that the indefinite articles (un, une) mean A and des means SOME. un copain = a (male) friend une copine = a (female) friend des copains = some friends

To make a singular noun plural, change the article from un, une to des and add an s to the end of the noun. un copain → des copains une copine → des copines

Pluralizing Verb Forms When pluralizing a noun in a sentence, it’s important to use the correct verb form. La classe est petite. (The class is small.) est = is Les classes sont petites. (The classes are small.) sont = are

Make sure that any adjectives match the nouns they describe in gender (masculine, feminine) and number (singular, plural). Le prof est strict. La prof est stricte. Les profs sont stricts.

The plural forms of the pronouns il and elle. il = he ils = they (at least one male in group) elle = she elles = they (100% female group) Pronouns are convenient replacements for nouns. Marc et Anne sont de Paris. Ils sont de Paris. Martine et Caroline sont de Bruxelles. Elles sont de Bruxelles.
