REDEMPTIVE COMMUNICATION Being Saved and Saving Others With Our Words!

Paul David Tripp, Speaking Redemptively “Speaking redemptively is all about choosing our words carefully. It is not just about the words we say but also about the words we have chosen not to say. Speaking redemptively is about being prepared to say the right thing at the right moment and exercising self-control. Speaking redemptively is refusing to let our talk be driven by passion and personal desire but communicating instead with God’s purposes in view. It is exercising the faith needed to be part of what God is doing at that moment.” Paul David Tripp, Speaking Redemptively

We can only be motivated to speak redemptively when we remember our daily need for God’s forgiveness, mercy, and grace.

3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus... (cont’d) Philippians 2:3-8 NASB

6 ...who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Philippians 2:3-8 NASB

Redemptive Communication is not conditional on performance.

Redemptive Communication is focused on sanctifying others, NOT controlling others.

11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, 12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus... (cont’d) Titus 2:11-14 NASB

14 ...who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. Titus 2:11-14 NASB

We have been saved SO THAT we can help save others!

29 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 4:29 NASB

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. (cont’d) Ephesians 5:25-33 NASB

28 So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies 28 So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; 29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, 30 because we are members of His body. (cont’d) Ephesians 5:25-33 NASB

31 For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. 32 This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband. Ephesians 5:25-33 NASB

1 What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you 1 What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? 2 You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. James 4:1-2 NASB

19 But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God. James 1:19 NASB

Redemptive Communication is not conditional on performance. AND Redemptive Comunication is focused on sanctifying others, NOT controlling others.
