Grace Vs. Works? Some contend that our salvation is completely based upon God’s “grace” alone. Some contend that our salvation, while based upon God’s grace, is not sufficient without man’s faithful “works”. Let’s read what the Bible says

Concerning Grace

Concerning “Grace” Titus 3:5-7: He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Concerning “Grace” Ephesians 2:4-5: But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)

Concerning “Grace” Ephesians 2:8-9: For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Concerning “Grace” 2 Timothy 1:8-9: Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity,

Concerning “Grace” Galatians 2:21: I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly. If it were possible to obtain a right standing by God through the works of the law, then Christ had no business dying! Here everything is at stake. Was Christ a false messiah, a common criminal, a nonentity whose death was merely a trivial footnote in the history of late antiquity? Any true Christian must tremble in horror at such a prospect. Yet Paul said that if we persist in building again the wall that Christ has torn down, if we try to climb up to heaven “by some other way,” if we add works of the law to the sacrifice of the cross, then indeed we make a mockery of Jesus’ death. George, T. (1994). Galatians. The New American Commentary (Vol. 30, p. 201). Nashville: Broadman & Holman Publishers.

Concerning works

Concerning “Works” Titus 3:8: This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds (works, NKJV). These things are good and profitable for men.

Concerning “Works” Ephesians 2:10: For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

Concerning “Works” Philippians 2:12-13: So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

Concerning “Works” Titus 2:11-14: For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

It Truly is Grace That Works!

It’s Not About “Grace” Vs. “Works”
God’s grace is the gift of fellowship with Him. Eph. 2:4-10 Grace also teaches us how to be His workmanship in Christ. Eph. 2:10; Tit. 2:11-3:8 Grace “works” through an individual who is converted to the Lord: a by-product of that person’s faith. Phil. 2:12-13
