Why Baptism?

The gospel of Jesus contains... Facts to believe - the message of God’s love and grace. Commands to obey - not difficult works done to earn salvation, but simple acts of faith whereby we receive God’s grace and mercy. Promises to receive - helping us deal with the problem of sin in our lives.

So why baptism? Baptism is commanded by Christ (Matthew 28.19-20; Mark 16.15-16) and his apostles (Acts 2.36-38; 8.12, 35-37; 10.47-48; 22.16). Every case of NT conversion results in baptism. (Acts 2.41; 8.12-13, 38; 9.18; 10.48; 16.15, 33) Baptism is the avenue of wonderful blessings! Ephesians 1.7 John 7.37-39; 1 Corinthians 12.13; Titus 3.5 John 15.4-5; Romans 6.3-7; Galatians 3.27 Colossians 2.12-13 1 Peter 3.21; Hebrews 9.14

“In an apostolic sermon it comes as its logical conclusion “In an apostolic sermon it comes as its logical conclusion. An effort ought to be made to restore this note in our preaching.” - George Beasley-Murray

At the conclusion of his sermon At the conclusion of his sermon... Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” - Acts 2.38

“Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. “ - Acts 2.41

Will you gladly receive God’s word and be baptized today Will you gladly receive God’s word and be baptized today? Will you respond to the Lord’s invitation as we stand and sing?
