Eating disorder: a mental disorder that reveals itself through abnormal behaviors related to food.

Anorexia nervosa: Person that does not eat enough food to maintain a healthy body weight. Main symptom is extreme weight loss. Other symptoms: -Slowed heart rate and breathing -Dry skin -Lowered body temp -Growth of fine body hair -In females, loss of menstrual periods

Health risks: -Even when very thin, they still see themselves as fat and work hard to lose even more weight. -This can lead to them starving themselves to death. -Due to lack of essential minerals can cause the heart to stop suddenly, leading to death.

Bulimia: People that go on uncontrolled eating binges followed by purging, or removing, the food from their bodies. Do this by making themselves vomit or by using laxatives More prevalent than anorexia Signs of bulimia: -Unable to control eating binges -Eating too much food too quickly -Eating in private -Cycles of weight gain and loss -Bathroom visits right after eating -Hoarding or storing food

Health risks: Usually maintain a healthy weight, but binging and purging is harmful to health Can suffer from dehydration, kidney damage, and a lack of necessary vitamins and minerals Stomach acid in vomit and irritate the throat and erode the enamel from teeth Can become depressed and may even think about suicide

Binge Eating Disorder: People that regularly have an uncontrollable urge to eat large amounts of food Health risks: Main physical risks are excess weight gain and unhealthy dieting.
