Recycling WHY RECYCLE? Using recycled materials to make new products reduces the demand for raw materials and increases the energy savings. Since it costs about $300,000 per acre to construct a new landfill, City of Gainesville residents can reduce disposal costs by preserving landfill space through recycling.
