Does the command to not make idols still apply after Jesus came? 18

3rd – You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God … Exodus 20:7 & Deuteronomy 5:11 (NIV84) #3 20:7 “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses His name. Idolatry misrepresents God visually, taking God’s name in vain misrepresents God verbally (Don Carson). Oaths/Swearing falsely = Calling on God as your witness when you are lying. 19

3rd – You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God … Exodus 20:7 & Deuteronomy 5:11 (NIV84) Blasphemy/Profanity = The charge that Jesus was executed for (Mark 14:64) Calling on God/Being called by God’s name = the reasons God gave His name to Israel. 20

4th – Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy… Exodus 20:8-11 & Deuteronomy 5:12-15 (NIV84) #4 20:8 “Remember [Observe] the Sabbath day by keeping it holy [as the LORD your God has commanded you]. 20:9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 20:10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God.
