BRAZILS HISTORY The Portuguese were the first European settlers to arrive in the area, led by adventurous Pedro Cabral, who began the colonial period in 1500. Other Portuguese explorers followed Cabral, in search of valuable goods for European trade but also for unsettled land and the opportunity to escape poverty in Portugal itself.  

BRAZILS LOCATION Situated on the east-central coast of the continent. Occupying nearly half of the South American continent, it covers an area of 3,286,488 square miles.

FACTS OF BRAZIL -Brazil is larger than Japan, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Indonesia and South Africa -they produce the worlds best coffee -largest country in South America -shares borders with every country except Chile and Ecuador -longest beach at 7500km -the worlds second largest river the Amazon is found in Brazil -one of the largest Roman Catholic countries -the most species of monkeys -has the largest stadium called the Maracana -Brazilians love to play soccer

CHRIST THE REDEEMER Christ the redeemer is the famous statue of Jesus Christ in Rio. The Christ the Redeemer statue stands 130 feet tall, including its 31 feet pedestal and has become an icon of Rio and Brazil.

Iguacu Falls One of the great natural wonders of the world, Iguaçu Falls is situated on the border between Brazil and Argentina. The waterfall system consists of 275 falls along the Iguazu River.

Fernando de Noronha Fernando de Noronha is a beautiful with pristine beaches, landscapes and wildlife, situated 220 miles off the northeastern coast in Brazil.

AMAZON RIVER At approximately 4,000 miles the Amazon River is the second longest river in the world, just slightly shorter than the Nile.

Salvador Beaches The beaches range from calm inlets, ideal for swimming, diving and sailing, as well as open sea inlets with strong waves, popular with surfers. There are also beaches surrounded by reefs, forming natural pools of stone, ideal for children.
