People AUDE Estates Management Report 2017 launch event: 6 October 2017 Book online > Speaker profiles Sir Ian Diamond Vice Chancellor – University of Aberdeen Sir Ian is Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, an appointment he has held since April 2010. He was previously Chief Executive of the Economic and Social Research Council. He was also Chair of the Research Councils UK Executive Group, the umbrella body that represents all seven UK Research Councils. Before joining the ESRC, Sir Ian was Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Southampton, where he had been for most of his career. Andrew Burgess – Director of Infrastructure and Commercial Services, University of Loughborough  Andrew Burgess joined Loughborough in 2007 as Director of Facilities Management and was responsible for the management of the University’s land and buildings, including its capital and refurbishment programmes. Prior to joining Loughborough, Andrew was deputy director of Facilities Management at the University of Liverpool, Assistant Director (Facilities) at Southampton University, and Head of Estate Management at the University of Central Lancashire. Anita Jackson – Director of Planning and Student Experience, University of Kent Anita has over twenty years’ experience of working in higher education, gaining experience in different roles across the sector working for research intensive, small and specialist and modern metropolitan institutions as well as managing a research portfolio for EPSRC and being Deputy Manager of the RAE 2001. During this time Anita has coordinated institutional strategic planning, monitored corporate performance, developed risk management processes, initiated the development of business analytics, advised senior management on the implications of changing HE policy and ensured statutory compliance. Nick Ratcliffe – Independent HE Consultant Nick worked at the Russell Group where he was Head of Policy from January 2013 until September 2016 and where he responsible for representing the Russell Group of Universities to Government on issues around teaching and the student experience, as well as teaching and capital funding. Before joining the Russell Group, Nick worked for eight years as an education consultant for KPMG LLP, delivering a range of projects in the further and higher education sectors in England, Wales and Scotland, including work around curriculum and funding, strategic options, mergers and reorganisations. During that time he was seconded to HM Treasury for six months where he worked in the Performance and Reform Unit advising Ministers on risks in relation to Government education and training policies. Sue Holmes – Director of Estates and Facilities management, Oxford Brookes University Sue is recognised as an expert on university space management, developing innovative spaces which create flexible and interesting areas in which to develop teaching and learning, and on issues related to effective use of space and good design in UK Higher Education and has spoken nationally and internationally on this subject. Sue took up the Chair of AUDE at the 2015 April AGM and her term of office is one year. The role of AUDE is vitally important in times of change and challenge. Delivering innovative solutions across estates and facilities demonstrates sector improvements illustrated by the EMR annual report and the evidence in Diamond 2. Andrew Marston – Research CBRE To follow George Griffith – University Consulting, CBRE George heads the CBRE’s University consulting. George works providing strategic advice to Universities, including benchmarking (along with undertaking the analysis for the AUDE estates report). He previously worked for KPMG where again he provided consultancy support to Universities and NHS Trusts, and prior to that he was Space and Property manager at the University of Bristol.
