Safety First The information on the following pages are meant as an introduction to things you may hear or see while you are here. At no time will you be responsible for anything other than observing our staff as they provide care.
Infection Prevention Washing or sanitizing your hands frequently and properly is the single most important action you can take to prevent the spread of infection.
Emergency Codes The following information on emergency codes is just to introduce you to the terminology should any of these situations occur while you are here. Your only job is to await further instruction should a code be initiated.
OMH Codes You may hear an overhead page if a situation arises that needs hospital-wide attention. The following pages describe these events and the instructions we give to our staff if these events occur.

Privacy The laws that outline a patients right to privacy are called HIPAA It is very important that you do not discuss any private information with anyone outside of the hospital or within an area that it can be overheard
HIPAA The HIPAA Privacy Rule protects a patient’s fundamental right to privacy and confidentiality Any information obtained about another person’s medical condition is treated as confidential and is not to be discussed or revealed to unauthorized persons
HIPAA Protected Health Information is anything that connects a patient to his or her health information: Date of Birth, SS#, diagnosis, address, etc.
