Corruption ‘the biggest weapon of mass destruction’

Each year over US$ 1 Trillion Each year over US$ 1 Trillion* goes missing from the global economy through bribes, dishonest deals and tax evasion. It’s called corruption. Corruption is more than bad business: it kills people.

Providing malaria prevention to the developing world would only cost YET… Providing malaria prevention to the developing world would only cost $4.2 billion.

YET… A year’s supply of life-saving medical services in low income countries would only cost $25 billion.

The cost of eradicating Global Poverty is only 1% of Global Income. YET… The cost of eradicating Global Poverty is only 1% of Global Income.

You cannot eradicate systemic poverty, unless you eradicate systemic corruption.

The economic impact of the ‘weapon of mass destruction’ Extracts resources from economy No investment in future – steals from next generations Inefficient allocation of resources Artificial high prices and low quality of products and services Increased uneven distribution of wealth Low technological advancement Low attraction of foreign investment and trade Low quality education, healthcare and other essential services

Defining Ethics The basic concepts and fundamental principles of decent human conduct. It includes study of universal values such as the essential equality of all men and women, human or natural rights, obedience to the law, concern for health and safety and increasingly, also for the natural environment. Moral principles that govern a person’s or groups behaviour. The basic concepts and fundamental principles of decent human conduct.

Some statements to ponder Our ethics (or lack of them) is driven by what is at the centre of our hearts. Whatever you are pursuing is determined by what resides at the centre of your heart. Whatever resides at the centre of your heart will determine your values and ethics in life and how you relate to the world. Whatever resides at the centre of your heart will determine your view of self identity.

3 Questions Why do I live in a country that claims to be +70% Christian and yet does not have Christian culture prevailing? Why do you live on a continent that has vast resources (natural and human) and yet is the begging bowl of the world largely surviving on foreign aid? Why is Africa the most evangelised continent and yet shows no evidence of societal transformation that should be consistent with the prevalence of the truth of the bible?

The fruit is an indication of the heart “A tree is identified by it’s fruit. If a tree is good, it’s fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, it’s fruit will be bad ……..For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart”. (Matthew 12:33-35) “Search me, O God, and know my heart” (Psalm139:23a) “Put me on trial, Lord, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and my heart.” (Psalm 26:2)

The vision…….. Unashamedly Ethical envisions God releasing a wave of positive transformation that will sweep across Africa and the World resulting in the restoration of God’s based values and blessings over nations and individuals.   We believe this ‘positive transformation’ will result in all people in every nation having access to basic human services and the opportunity to build prosperous lives for themselves and their families while also positively contributing towards the common good in their communities, cities and nation.

The purpose…….. To mobilize God’s people in all nations to make a stand by signing a pledge to commit to a lifestyle of ethics, values and clean living so that a tipping point is reached to rid the world of the corruption and unethical practices that are fuelling systemic poverty and social injustices in society.

The mission…….. Unashamedly Ethical is built upon three simple foundations to –   Challenging individuals and organizations to sign a pledge to be unashamedly ethical; Connect members through an online directory and create a community of ethical companies, organizations and individuals; Hold signatories accountable through an Ombudsman system.

Martin Luther King (Jr.) “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy.” Martin Luther King (Jr.)
