12th November, from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm @ Venue BIORISK ASSOCIATION OF SINGAPORE Presents Designing HVAC / ACMV for Biomedical Laboratories 12th November, from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm @ Venue The use of biological agents and hazardous chemicals differentiates laboratories from other type of building spaces. Heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems for Research Laboratories and Animal Facilities are used to maintain the air-change rates, space temperature and humidity at the required set point, providing adequate ventilation to remove fumes, odours, airborne contaminants, and to safely operate equipments like the biological safety cabinets (BSC) and fume hoods . They are also designed to maintain relative pressure differentials between spaces to prevent cross contamination. Laboratories have different hazard levels and uses that have to be addressed differently. There are many criteria to be considered when a laboratory is planned or renovated in order to determine the optimal design. As the safety and health of the laboratory and building occupants must be the primary concern, HVAC systems have to be designed to be reliable, with enough redundancy and to operate without interruption while being efficient in terms of both energy efficiency and maintenance.
