DT-LHCb coordination meeting 18 April 2016 Upgrade activities DT-LHCb coordination meeting 18 April 2016

VELO mechanics, cooling and test beam support Raphael : Continue work on VELO cooling safety system reproduce a dummy CO2 distribution line for the detectors hybrids Analyse: cooling stability, pressure drop, Safety system behaviour +…. Beam test (VELOpix hybrid under vacuum …) Adapt the VELO telescope for this new functionality, construction of a light vacuum box for DUT (cooling -20celsius + …..) RF foil leak test stand. Testing the leak rate of the new RF foil  Driven by vacuum group (Massi follows up)(  Frist draft of tender for micro channel plate available  delicate and critical issue

Integration work for the UT Joao, Olivier, Francois, Burkhard Continuation of the engineering design for components of the UT, including the UT box and the beam-pipe interface  the frames for stave mounting, taking into account the constraints in relation to alignment  The EDR for the UT box and frames is scheduled for June 13

UT detector Prototype box A prototype box under construction at CERN nearly ready Francois Boyer and Gergory Lahu The dimensions are: x = 2 x 430mm ; y =500mm ; z = 400mm The main motivation of the prototype is to study technical details of the joints in order to insure tightness, integration of the copper net to ensure Faraday cage behaviour Test two options for the beam-pipe interface

UT Beam pipe interface Two options Beam pipe interface based on polymer Airex

Alternative beam plug design This design has the advantage to be simpler less radiation length  Both options will be evaluated with the prototype (work in progress) AIREX Foam

A look at the TT module positioning TT detector box: C-frame Cooling plate adjustable standoffs Balconies for stave mounting

Status of UT mechanics / frames Top part of the UT with C-frame Frames to be screwed to the top panel of the box  keep possibility to adjust by a few mm in (y) and x

Scintillating Fibre Tracker Christian, Robert, Thomas: Fibre quality assurance during pre-series and main supply phase Logistics for fibre supply (shipping of fibres, update database) Attenuation length tests Fibre diameter scanner Work on bump removal station: Looks promising X-ray irradiation PRR for fibre mat production in Aachen took place last week

RICH / TORCH Didier, Thierry: Coordination of the HPD operation and maintenance in the RICH detectors Dedicated support, advice and supervision for specific RICH upgrade activities: QE measurements of MaPMT tubes large-size (2”) tubes recently delivered as part of the pre-series. Preparatory and running activities of MaPMT system tests dedicated high rate laser light illumination. These tests are essential to assess the MaPMT and readout electronics performance in high occupancy conditions. Preparatory and running activities for beam test campaigns. Coordination and contribution to TORCH activities at CERN.

Muon System upgrade Burkhard, Robert, Michal: Simulations have been done to investigate the reduction in occupancy in M2R1: Change of material from steel (or lead) to tungsten for HCAL and M2 beam-plug Additional shielding behind HCAL (replace PMT and CW bases by shielding) Max. possible reduction: -60% -25% -43% HCAL plug: -25% -22% (M2 plug) EDR is scheduled for May/June this year Design work start with CUT student Michal Galka  Early installation (EYETS 2016/2017) for the beam-plug under M2 is considered.

New M2 beam plug
