The Level 2 Technical Award must provide depth of study. OVERVIEW OF CONTENT Unit 201 –Engineering communication Understand engineering drawing conventions Understand  the operation of Computer Aided Design (CAD) Understand the use of basic components in engineering Understand basic units of measurement used in engineering. Unit 202 – Engineering development Understand the methods used to manufacture commercial products. Understand the methods used to make prototype products. Understand the types and properties of materials that are used to make engineered products. Understand the importance of design criteria in evaluation The Level 2 Technical Award must provide depth of study. It is approved for use and will provide learners with an awareness of the engineering sector rather that giving them a pathway into a particular job outcome. Where possible aligned to new Apprenticeship standards First teaching planned for September 2017. There are four pathways. Each has the same three generic units nominally 60 GLH. Each pathway will be 360 GLH.

OVERVIEW OF CONTENT – KS5 LEVEL 3 TECHNICALS Sizes of qualification (GLH) and UCAS points 360 GLH = 140 points (56). 540 GLH = 210 points (84). 720 GLH = 280 points (112). 120 points converts to 48 on new tariff. Mandatory units 301 - Engineering materials 302 - Electronics, control and instrumentation 303 - Mechanical structures and dynamics 304 - Manufacturing methods in engineering The qualification has UCAS points, has potential to be delivered as one or two year programmes. 720 size now included in MME pathway of the Level 3 Engineering Manufacture SASE/W framework. SASE/SASW – Pathway 3 Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering

OVERVIEW OF CONTENT – KS5 LEVEL 3 Mandatory units 305 - Engineering design 306 - Engineering mathematics and statistics 307 - Engineering workshop practice (540/720) 308 - Innovation and new technologies (540/720) 310 - Manufacturing engineering (720) 311 - Robotics and automated manufacture (720) The remainder of the mandatory units. The first six we listed can form the 360 GLH sized qualification as they are all 60 GLH. The 540 and 720 GLH sized qualifications have additional mandatory units.

One can be chosen when completing the 540 GLH sized qualification and two when choosing the 720 GLH sized qualification. There are six sectors to choose from plus a project management unit.
