1 New qualification briefing April 2013 London

2 Introduction The new City & Guilds qualifications for IT User have been designed in response to the Secretary of State’s requirement that all qualifications in the Qualifications and Credit Framework that receive Performance Measure Points must be graded and have a substantial amount of external assessment. They remain flexible qualifications that can be used to support classroom learning or home based learning and assessment as required. 2

3 New L2 Certificate qualification Internal skills tests are a key part of ensuring learner competence Internal & external moderation assessment processes are important parts of ensuring reliability of the qualification At Level 2 there are four pass grades C to A* equivalent to GCSE An extended piece of synoptic evidence derived from other subject work showing the application of IT skills achieved to be used in new Mandatory unit exam 3

4 Main changes Still nine qualifications at 3 levels and same units as 7534 but new 3D units available Still unit credit rating Still Mandatory Unit required for Certificate and Diploma New Mandatory unit external exam at 2 levels New IT knowledge and understanding external test based on IT User Fundamentals unit content for all 4

5 Main changes More flexibility in delivery More content support New progression pathways: IT User Design, IT User Business, IT User Creative, etc. Recognition of prior learning (MOS, ACU 24% ITQ) New additional Professional Certification option from Autodesk & Microsoft (Prodigy Learning) 5

6 Main changes Less ‘coursework’ evidence – one piece per unit One extended piece of ‘coursework’ evidence required for candidates to reference in the 90 minute Mandatory Unit exam – at least 4 skills at the level of the qualification – GCSE type coursework not prep. - ideally showing skills elements from different units 30 minute multiple choice knowledge test 6
