“Next” sentence Next, they found that if a 9th grader misses 20 days of school he or she has a 50/50 chance of graduating.

“Finally” sentence Finally, freshmen grades count too since students with a D average have less than a 5% chance of graduating on time.

“Therefore” sentence Therefore, achievement 9th grade year is critical to success in high school.

Complete Summary Example The article “Freshmen Schooled on Need to Attend” explains that attendance freshmen year of high school is closely connected with graduation rates. First, a study was done examining freshmen grades first semester. Next, they found that if a 9th grader misses 20 days of school he or she has a 50/50 chance of graduating. Finally, freshmen grades count too since students with a D average have less than a 5% chance of graduating on time. Therefore, achievement 9th grade year is critical to success in high school.

Body Paragraph Example Attendance and grades during 9th grade can significantly impact success in high school. For example, “a Chicago public school freshman misses 20 school days a year—enough to give just a 50/50 chance of graduating, regardless of test scores in 8th grade.” This shows that attendance freshmen year can predict graduation better than test scores. This also shows that if you want to graduate on time you need to attend class during 9th grade. In addition, “students who maintain a B average or better during their freshman year have a 95 percent chance of graduating in four years.” This shows that students who maintain high GPAs during their freshmen year have a good chance of graduating on time. This also shows that freshmen grades are important even if graduation is so far away. Therefore, students should work hard to be successful 9th grade year because it is the most important year of high school.

How does a summary paragraph compare to a body paragraph?
