5. Topic Sentences
Gives background information about the action that is going to happen
Sets up the story
Point of the narrative & tells what it is about
Usually the first or second sentence of the paragraph

6. Effective Topic Sentences
Your topic sentence should state the main point of your paragraph.
Be sure to choose a topic that is not too general or too specific.
Make sure your topic sentence is a complete thought.
Avoid announcing your topic.
Example: I will talk about the reasons for the popularity of reality television shows.

4. Copy the sentence to look like a real sentence.
Edit the sentence to fix the spelling and capitalization issues.
Make a short outline or list of facts you will use.
