SSRS 2012 SharePoint Integration. Report Viewer Web Part. Fully integrated. SSRS 2012 SharePoint integrated mode significantly easier to install and maintain since it allows SharePoint Administrators to reuse their existing knowledge (PowerShell). In SSRS 2012 report execution much faster.

By using Data Alerts you no longer have to manually seek out information, it comes to you based on your definition of the alert rule. No tool for IT (only admin), it is specifically designed to be utilized by less technical business analysts. Applied correctly, it reduces the amount of manual data exploration. Anyone with the permissions can create, schedule and run Data Alerts. Designed to provide faster access to critical (changes) in important data. Data Alerts can not be created on reports stored locally and outside the Sharepoint integrated SSRS Database.

What are Data Alerts? Require SharePoint 2010 SP1 and SSRS 2012 Enterprise in Sharepoint Integrated Mode. Require stored credentials, like SSRS subscriptions. Can be created within the environment the user is already familiar with. Any SSRS report with a Data Region… Are based on Silverlight. Not designed for real-time. Better go with StreamInsight for real-time alerting. Reuse the Data Feed technology to import data and metadata into the Alert designer.

Process to create an Alert. Vision Business-Analyst Different approach than with subscriptions. I have seen admins creating a lot of standard-subscriptions for user but also a matter of the company culture. Enable the User !!

Avoid Pitfalls Don’t get burned !! Do Capacity Planning, also train and monitor your users. Everyone with the permissions to create alerts should know that this creates load on the server even if no emails get send. Schedule option minute. 2 important properties you should know about… I’d be careful with large data sets in reports. Code review for deployed reports ?? Who is doing this? What are you looking for? Apply report caching, if appropriate..
