A Macbeth Assignment Mindmap - Planning an Assignment Lesson Objectives To revisit general guidance for setting out an academic assignment. To look at how Mind-Maps can help ‘brainstorm’ and structure assignments. To produce a Mind-Map for the Macbeth ry assignment.

A Macbeth Assignment Mindmap - Planning an Assignment Why you should create an assignment plan. Planning your assignment can help in several ways: It focuses you on what the assignment is really asking for. It then helps you create a structure for your assignment, Then it guides you through populating that structure. It can give you a timescale to work to which, if followed, will help avoid any last minute rush. By creating and following an assignment plan, your work will be better prepared, written and presented.

A Macbeth Assignment Mindmap - Planning an Assignment Mind Maps Creating a Mindmap is a quick and very effective way of planning an assignment. It allows you to quickly capture ideas and then sort those ideas out into a logical paragraph order.

A Macbeth Assignment Mindmap This is an example of the sort of note you might make. Idea 8 Quote: Idea 2 Quote: Idea 1 – She does not think Macbeth Will kill the King [Act 1 Sc5] Quote: “Milk of human kindness.” Macbeth Assignment Title How do you think Shakespeare makes Lady Macbeth’s change in character during the course of the play so dramatic? Idea 7 Quote: Idea 3 Quote: Idea 5 Quote: Idea 6 Quote: Idea 4 Quote:

A Macbeth Assignment Mindmap – Populate Your Mindmap At this stage you do not have to worry about the order of your paragraphs, just get your ideas down on paper. Idea 2 – Sleepwalking Scene Quote: “Out, out dammed spot Idea 1 – She does not think Macbeth Will kill the King [Act 1 Sc5] Quote: “Milk of human kindness.” Macbeth Assignment Title How do you think Shakespeare makes Lady Macbeth’s change in character during the course of the play so dramatic? Idea 7 – Loss of sleep. Quote: “Macbeth hath murdered sleep Idea 3 – Goes back with the daggers And gets blood o her hands Quote: “A little water washes this clean” Idea 5 – Plans the murder. Quote: “Leave all to me” Idea 6 – Accuses Macbeth of being a coward. Quote: “Durs’t do it then a man” Idea 4 – Wants to be a strong woman. Quote: “Unsex me now”

A Macbeth Assignment Mindmap - Selecting & Organizing Use your Mind Map to select the information/ ideas you want to use, then sequence that information into paragraph order. Para 6 – Sleepwalking Scene Quote: “Out, out dammed spot Para 1 – She does not think Macbeth Will kill the King [Act 1 Sc5] Quote: “Milk of human kindness.” Macbeth Assignment Title How do you think Shakespeare makes Lady Macbeth’s change in character during the course of the play so dramatic? Para 4 – Goes back with the daggers And gets blood o her hands Quote: “A little water washes this clean” Para 5 – Loss of sleep. Quote: “Macbeth hath murdered sleep You have a 600-1200 word assignment so using a map like this you know you have to write about 150 words for each paragraph + intro & conclusion. Para 3 – Plans the murder. Quote: “Leave all to me” Para 2 – Accuses Macbeth of being a coward. Quote: “Durs’t do it then a man” Para 1 – Wants to be a strong woman. Quote: “Unsex me now”

A Macbeth Assignment Mindmap - Introduction Now you know what you want to write and the order you are going to write it in you can think about writing your introduction. The Introduction should start with you restating the question or rephrasing the question in your opening sentence. It is important to repeat many of the words found in the question to show your teacher/ marker that your answer is clear and on target. When you have restated the question you should give a broad outline of what you want to say which can be in the form of a thesis statement or a summary of the main points from your mind map. In this assignment I intend to show how Shakespeare makes Lady Macbeth’s change in character during the course of the play so dramatic? To do this I intend to show….. then make a brief reference to each paragraph idea you have identified in your mindmap/plan.

A Macbeth Assignment Mindmap - Conclusion In your conclusion you should try to show you have answered the question by summarizing the main points or arguments you have made in your assignment. If you have used your Mindmap plan effectively you may well be able to use ideas from some of your paragraph cells to help you here. Do not introduce new material in your conclusion. Ex: In this assignment I have shown how Shakespeare makes Lady Macbeth’s change in character so dramatic by showing how at the start of the play she seemed such a strong character, but once she kills King Duncan and gets blood on her hands she begins to feel so guilty that she cannot sleep and this eventually drives her to madness and suicide.

A Macbeth Assignment Mindmap –Now make your own Mindmap When you have completed your Mindmap bring it to me for approval and then you can get a laptop and start writing. Idea 8 Quote: Idea 2 Quote: Idea 1 – Quote: “Milk of human kindness.” Macbeth Assignment Title How do you think Shakespeare makes Lady Macbeth’s change in character during the course of the play so dramatic? Idea 7 Quote: Idea 3 Quote: Idea 5 Quote: Idea 6 Quote: Idea 4 Quote:
