Environmental problems and solutions

Energy consumption in Europe has almost doubled in the last 20 years Energy consumption in Europe has almost doubled in the last 20 years. Excessive energy consumption causing air pollution, acid rain and affects the climate.

At home Lights Home appliances Refrigerator don’t let them on when you do not need them Economic bulbs A good solution: They last 10 times longer and use 75% less energy than standard bulbs. Home appliances Take care not to forget them on it is advisable to turn off the TV, video, stereo etc. from the device and not from the remote control. Refrigerator In an average household:consumes more than 1/4 of the current Adjust your refrigerator (2 to 5 degrees in the cooling, from -15 to -18 in the freezer).

Washing machine Water heater check that the washing machine is full When you put laundry check that the washing machine is full Choose to wash at a moderate temperature Choose the energy saving program ,If your washing machine has one. save electricity and water Water heater uses about 20% of the electricity we consume at home do not forget it on Make sure it is not set at a very high temperature (60 degrees) prefer a solar water heater. Heating-Air Conditioning Turning down the heater thermostat by 1 degree makes up to 10% savings on the heating bill Clean or change the air conditioning filter once a month.

Water is not unlimited We must use it wisely Let us not forget that our most cities are not close to adequate water resources So, to meet our growing needs, water is transported from increasingly long distances, affecting ecosystems hundreds of kilometers away

TAP BATHTUB FLUSH

Taps A tap running spends a lot more water than you imagine If you shut the tap when brushing your teeth or when shaving, you save 10 liters of water at a time. And much more when you wash the dishes. Bathtub Prefer a shower rather than a bath with full tub bathtub = 3 showers Flush Its water comes from the same net as the water we drink if your toilet is running , it wastes precious drinking water There is a very simple way to save thousands of liters of water Fill a small plastic bottle with water (after you take off the label) and put it into the toilet This reduces the capacity of the flush.

Against unnecessary packaging Ask the municipality or community for recycling programs available in your area the materials are recycled separately, such as paper, glass, aluminum Recycle them if there is an appropriate infrastructure 1/3 of the trash of our house consists of packaging Try avoiding products with unnecessary packaging

CHEMICALS AT HOME Some of the products we use in our homes contain chemicals that can harm the environment or our health, if we are not careful enough.

As with all chemicals, you should take some precautions when using them Guard products well sealed in their original containers in a cool, dry place and away from children. Before you use a cleaner, read the precautions and instructions for use. Never shuffle cleaners containing bleach with those containing ammonia because toxic gas is generated.   Never throw in the sink, the sewer system or the ground. Could be severely polluted water. Do not buy more products than necessary. If you don’t use them , give the rest to someone in need. The house should always be ventilated sufficiently in particular during the cleaning.
