Aim of the evening To explain the history behind the 1 ½ form intake. To gain an understanding of the 1 ½ form intake at present. To illustrate how the 1 ½ form intake may look in the future. To provide opportunities for questions and answers.

The history 2012 and 2013 One form intake where every class had 30 children: Reception 30 Year 1 30 Year 2 30 Year 3 30 Year 4 30 Year 5 30 Year 6 30 Small increase in numbers but no extra classroom with 36 children: Reception 35 plus 1 extra teacher Year 1 30 Year 2 30 Year 3 30 Year 4 30 Year 5 30 Year 6 30

2014 This was the first year we had to have a vertically grouped class with Year 1 and Year 2 children together. This was the first year we were asked to take 45 children in Reception.

September 2016 Reception will have 45 children split between two classes of 22 and 23 Year 1 will have 45 children split between two classes of 30 (Year 1 class) and 15 (Year 1/2 class) Year 2 will have 46 children split between two classes of 31 (Year 2 class) and 15 (Year 1/2 class) Year 3 will have 37 children split between two classes of ?(Year 3 class) and ? (Year 3/4 class) Year 4 will have 31 children split between two classes of ? (Year 4 class) and ? (Year 3/4 class)

Frequently asked questions Why is my child being kept back a year? No child is being kept back a year or moved forward a year. Every year group has a specific curriculum which we have a statutory duty to teach. Even if your child is in a split class they will still be taught their own year group objectives from the DfE National Curriculum framework. The topic may well be the same in a split class but the learning objectives and success criteria will be significantly different.

Frequently asked questions Why is my child being split up from his/her friends? Learning time in the classroom is precisely for that….learning! There are plenty of opportunities for children to be with their friends in order to chat and socialise: Assemblies Playtimes Lunchtimes Passport sessions Spelling sessions

Frequently asked questions Will my child remain with the same group of children all the way through school? No. Children in our school are used to not staying in one classroom and move groups constantly for spellings and passports. This is not a new concept for your child. We have an excellent opportunity to maximise your child’s progress by possibly moving them into a different group.

Frequently asked questions If I am not happy with the decision what can I do as a parent? Come and talk to me. However a great deal of thought and consideration for your child is always at the forefront of any decisions made and one would hope you would trust our professional opinion in order to maximise the progress of your child. Give it time. I agree change is difficult for any child but staff always work extremely hard to ensure your child is safe, happy and settled within school. Talk to their current and new class teacher. They will be able to reassure you of any problems you foresee.

When will you find out which class they are in? You will receive a letter as soon after May half term as I possibly can. Children will visit their new classroom and new teacher on Tuesday 5th July 2016 during the morning session. Numbers of children New staff Maternity leaves Current staff
