REHABILITATION OF WATER NETWORK Bc. Petr Kohoutek

Water Network in Czech republick Water network: 48 850 km House connections: 12 900 km In sum: 61 750 km 1/17

Age of water network in CZ In Czech republick is over 20 % water network older 60 years Needs of rehabilitation in CZ: 2 - 2,5 % of lengh (c. 1235 km every year) 2/17

No-Dig Technologies Benefits: No-Dig technologies are alternate to work in open excavation. Benefits: Shorter construction time Minimum disturbance of terrain Lower building costs Thriftiness to environment Disadvantages: Heftiness to technical equipment Compliance technology work (observance of construction of rehabilitation) 3/17

No-Dig Technologies Non - destructive techniques - renovation of old pipes Destructive techniques – renewal /replacement of old pipes 4/17

Non - destructive methods of renovation of water networks: Cement Mortar Lining CIPP (cured-in-place pipe) techniques Close Fit Lining Pulling of new pipes in old pipes (Relining) 5/17

Cement Mortar Lining Coatings based on cementitious materials for DN 80 – 3000 Old pipelines: cast iron, steels, concrete, asbestos - cement. 6/17

CIPP methods A cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) is one of several trenchless rehabilitation methods used to repair existing pipelines. CIPP is a jointless, seamless, pipe-within-a-pipe with the capability to rehabilitate pipes ranging in diameter from DN 100 to 1500. As one of the most widely used rehabilitation methods CIPP has application in water, sewer, gas, and chemical pipelines

Close Fit Lining Close fit lining is a term used to describe a range of techniques for renovating pipelines, in which the cross section of the liner is temporarily deformed before insertion into the carrier pipe. The liner is subsequently restored close to its original diameter, forming a close fit with the original pipe. The liner is deformed by either reducing its diameter or changing its shape. To do this the liner can either be passed through tapered dies, through rollers or be folded, either on site or in the factory. After insertion into the carrier pipe the liner is reverted, either by natural relaxation or through the application of steam or water under pressure. Each close fit lining system uses a different combination of deformation and reversion methods. 8/17

Pulling of new pipes in old pipes New pipes has smaller outside diameter than inside diameter of an old pipelines. New pipes: PE steel cast iron DN 80 - 2000, max. lenght 700 m 9/17

Destructive methods of renewal of water network: Pipe Bursting: old pipelines are destroyed static or dynamic Hydros technology - trenchless replacement and laying of new pressure pipelines Pipe Splitting: The pipe splitting method was developed by the Water Supply Company of Berlin, in order to carry out trenchless lead pipe replacement with HDPE pipes within the field of house connections. However, the trenchless replacement of lead pipes is difficult due to their unstable structure. They tear easily or are deformed by compression, therefore they cannot be simply pulled or pushed out of the soil like, e.g. steel pipes. 10/17

Pipe Bursting When applying the dynamic pipe bursting method, you pull the bursting machine - supported by a winch - through the old pipe meant to be renewed. During this procedure, the old pipe is destroyed by dynamic impact energy, the fractured particles are pushed into the surrounding soil. The new line, in the same width or one size larger, is pulled in at the same time. The old pipe may consist of stoneware, asbestos, plastic or plain concrete.Behind bursting head is indraft new conduit to the incurred space Material of old pipelines: cast iron, PVC Material of new pipes: PE, PVC This method is possible applied for diameters to the DN 300 11/17

Hydros technology Hydros boy, lead, plus, … hydros®PLUS - Trenchless technology for replacement of mains for the drinking water and gas supply up to diameters of DN (nominal diameter) 400 (400 mm) and individual pulling sections with lengths of up to 150 m. 11/17

Rehabilitation of sewer networks BRNO UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, FACULTY OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, INSTITUTE OF MUNICIPAL WATER MANAGEMENT Rehabilitation of sewer networks PRESENTATION BACHELOR'S THESIS Bc. Petr Charamza

Introduction No-dig methods rehabilitation of sewer networks. Information are applied on studies of rehabilitation of sewer network in village Kozlovice in Přerov.

No-dig methods of rehabilitation of sewer networks. No-dig technologies classify into: Repair, Renovation, Renewal (Replacement) Repair Robotic Systems Injection technique  (e.g. methods penetrin, sirkit)

Repair of sewer network - method Penetryn - joint leakage - lengthwise and transverse cracks - repair of sewer connections It is possible for repair of pipeline - shaped cross sections circular, oval - with smooth, no rusted inside pipe surface, - and with a partial flow – special packery.

5 - sealing gel, 6 – video camera, 7 - padding Penetryn method 1 - wind with pulleies, 2 – technological van, 3 - packer, 4 - observant openings, 5 - sealing gel, 6 – video camera, 7 - padding

No-dig methods rehabilitation of sewer networks. Renovation methods of sealing (method sanipor) methods of lining methods of relining cement mortar lining CIPP (cured-in-place pipe) methods

Relining methods Methods of relining: Pulling of new pipes to the old pipe Pulled pipe must have smaller outside diameter than smallest inside diameter of old pipe. it is use for static unbearable pipe, for modification: non-pressure pipes to pressure pipes. Methods of relining: relining of short pipes relining of long pipes (PE) spirally wound lining close fit polyethylene lining technique (Subline, Swagelining, Rolldown)

CIPP methods (cured-in-place pipe) Relinig of pipes from geotextile which has interior face from polyethylene and exterior face is impregnate with polyester resin. Using for: circular and non-circular pipes. New pipe is pulling into the old pipe by the help of water pressure, steam and air. Methods of hardening: hot water hardening (e.g. Insituform, Kawo) steam hardening (e.g. Phoenix) UV hardening (e.g. Inpipe)

CIPP - hot water hardening 1 - refrigerator wagon, 2 - belt conveyor, 3 - heating unit, 4 - inverse tower, 5- pressure water column, 6 - padding, 7 - sleeve, 8 - heating hose

Methods of rehabilitation of sewer networks exchange of pipeling in open excavation Renewal (Replacement) no-dig technologies Breaking the old pipe, Pipe Bursting method (dynamic, static) Pipe Eating method

Pipe bursting method - static It use to replacement of old pipes from fragile material. Pipe bursting with expander. Pulling of new pipes. speed of execute work is about 15 m/hour

Information are applied on studies of rehabilitation of sewer network in village Kozlovice /Přerov.

Studies of rehabilitation of sewer network in village Kozlovice/Přerov. Village Kozlovice is situated on left bank of river Becva (northeast of Prerova). Village has combined stormwater-sewerage systems - main sewer 2,3,4 and collective sewer 1. Description of reconstructed sewer: Old sewer is situated in centre of village Section 2, 2.1 and 2.2 Parts of sewer 2 and 2.2 are situated on frequented Grymovska street, Sewer 2.1 and part of sewer 2 are situated in residential street - behind the school.

Actual state - Monitoring from firm SEZAKO Prostejov, s.r.o. - report from monitoring evidences - sewer is rusted, joint leakage.

Using of methods for rehabilitation of sewer networks No-dig technologies CIPP (Insituform, KAWO methods) – renovation of parts of sewer 2 and branches sewer 2.2. Sewers are situated in the centre of communication - communication is in excellent state. Open excavation Open excavation - parts of sewer 2 and branches sewer 2.1, finds in the street behind the school. Sewer are situated in the centre of communication. Surface of road is in disastrous state.
