WHAT IS THE RESURRECTION ? The resurrection is the Christian story of the rising of Christ from the dead. In the bible the word translated as resurrection comes from a Greek word which means raising up or standing up again. A person who is resurrected has raised up from death and restored to life as the person he was before.

THE RESURRECTION STORY 'After sabbath, the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb' Matthew 28:1 'And suddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.' Matthew 28:2 'For fear of him the guards shook and became like a dead man.' Matthew 28:4 'He has been raised from the dead' Matthew 28:7 Jesus died on Friday afternoon, his friends placed his body in a tomb, cut into a rocky hillside and blocked the entrance with a great big stone. On Sunday when two women came to visit the tomb they felt a great earthquake at the tomb. They saw an angel come and roll away the stone from the tomb entrance. The guards were so frightened that they shook and fainted. The angel told the women 'do not be afraid that Jesus is not there, he has risen'. The angel told them to go quickly and tell Jesus' friends that he was alive again. Whilst on their way they met Jesus and he said 'Don't be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galillee, there they will see me. And just as Jesus had promised he rose from the dead on the third day after his death, this is why Christians celebrate Easter Sunday to remember this event.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR CHRISTIAN WORSHIP? The resurrection validates who Jesus claims to be. Other reasons include the resurrection witnesses the immense power of God himself and he was able to create life are death. Important to prove that Jesus' character is sinless and of divine nature. Jesus' resurrection would clarify that heaven exists for Christians because if Jesus died on the cross for our sins, his resurrection proves that he wasn't lying and God can forgive us. If the resurrection of Jesus did not happen, Jesus wasn't the son of God therefore Christianity would be basing their beliefs on some thing that didn't happen. KEYS BELIEFS Some Christians believe that the story of Jesus' resurrection suggest that our body's will resurrect up to heaven with out souls. However others would believe that only Jesus and his body were able to be resurrected as he is a son of God. 'Jesus said I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live even though he dies.' John 11:25-26 Some Christians believe that the story of Jesus' resurrection suggest that our body's will resurrect up to heaven with out souls. However others would believe that only Jesus and his body were able to be resurrected as he is a son of God. 'Jesus said I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live even though he dies.' John 11:25-26

Furthermore Christians believe that through their belief in Jesus as the son of God and in his death and resurrection, they can have the right to have a relationship with God whose forgiveness was made infinite through the death of Jesus Christ. 'God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.' John 3:16 Furthermore Christians believe that through their belief in Jesus as the son of God and in his death and resurrection, they can have the right to have a relationship with God whose forgiveness was made infinite through the death of Jesus Christ. 'God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.' John 3:16

SUMMARY Jesus' resurrection is a very important story in Christianity. It is a large celebration, Easter, and is celebrated across the world. In short there are no Christians denominations who deny the resurrection of Jesus. The following is from the Niceness Creed (widely used in churches particularly Catholic) regarding the resurrection: For our sake he was crucified under Plotinus Pilate, He suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day In accordance with the scriptures
