Bay of Pigs Eisenhower and the CIA trained Cuban exiles to invade and overthrow Castro Kennedy learned of this plan 9 days after taking office On April 17, 1961 1300 to 1500 exiles landed on the Bay of Pigs Everything went wrong

Cuban Missile Crisis Khrushchev and Castro were allies The Soviet Union promised to defend Cuba During the summer of 1962 weapons including nuclear entered into Cuba from the Soviet Union On October 14 photographs showed Soviet missile bases in Cuba

On October 22 Kennedy told the nation of the missiles and his plan Any missile attack from Cuba would lead to an all out attack on the Soviet Union The world waited for 6 days Khrushchev offered to remove the missiles, the U.S. in turn would not invade Cuba and took away missiles in Turkey
