What is the League? One of 49 State Municipal Leagues National League of Cities – FLC is member FLC Members: Municipal Governments Part of the Southern Municipal Conference A Uniting Voice for Cities

Historical Overview Founded in 1922; Advocacy Main Goal Moved to Tallahassee in 1970 Largest State Municipal League by size and scope of programs Offices in Tallahassee and Orlando

Structure of League 50-plus member Board of Directors Executive Director leads 8 departments Tallahassee Office: Six departments Orlando Office: Two departments: Insurance, Technology Services. Also site of FLC University Annual Conference - elections/workshops Legislative Conference – Setting Priorities

Who Are Our Members? 412 cities, towns and villages Charter Counties (19 eligible) Voluntary to join Nearly 100% membership in FLC No individual, corporate, or affiliate members 1/3 of council/commission members turn over each year

Advocacy: Taking A Stand Legislative Committees Meet Year-’round Staff are Lobbyists – State and Federal FLC Relies on “grass-roots” efforts Legislative Action Day – March 21-22, 2017: Tallahassee Working with Legislature and State Agencies all year—more than Session

FLC Policy Committees 5 – divided by subject area Appointments are made by FLC President; will be open again next June for 2018 Session (earlier for even-numbered years Usually, Legislative Conference in November -- priority-selection for upcoming spring session; this year NLC dates were a conflict Members advocate all year!
