Why We Must Act Arts are an essential component of healthy, livable, and diverse communities. A resilient and thriving creative economy requires affordable, long-term, multi-use space for artists, cultural organizations and their communities. We must create space that small, community organizations and artists can share, program and afford Smaller organizations cannot reach their potential if they are responsible for solving the problem of space and capital We must prevent our region from becoming a place in which only larger organizations thrive s

The Creative Campus: The Solution The Creative Campus is a mission-driven real estate initiative that invests in the arts sector and its diverse people, organizations, and communities. Through a fund dedicated to developing and owning creative real estate projects, we seek to eliminate barriers for smaller organizations and individual artists to access affordable, long-term, flexible space in the Greater Boston Area. Why Us As the Arts & Business Council (A&BC), we know the important role of arts and culture in revitalizing communities. Our 30+ years of experience have taught us about the profound positive effects arts and culture can have on youth, especially in underserved neighborhoods. Now we want to tap into that power to save and reinvent one of the City’s greatest assets. This project will be a catalyzing effort of the A&BC’s Creative Campus—a mission-driven initiative seeking to preserve and develop affordable creative spaces in support of diverse and underserved communities.

The Vision We will address the space and capital problem for small arts organizations by establishing The Creative Space Impact Fund, which will establish Creative Campuses by developing and owning creative real estate projects throughout the greater Boston Area The focus of the Fund will be twofold: Access to development capital (20-30% equity) to take advantage of opportunities General operating costs for administration, fundraising, real estate planning, and research

How We Will Break the Cycle The Creative Space Impact Fund will serve these diverse artists and the community at large by: Developing and owning creative properties that invest in diverse communities by securing affordable, sustainable, and flexible space for artists and their respective organizations. Providing meaningful, efficient, and impactful ways for champions of the arts, corporations, and foundations to support the arts sector. Leveraging the A&BC’s business and professional development programs to help artists/arts organizations build capacity to survive and thrive. Providing consulting services to developers, government and nonprofit/artists collaboratives seeking to develop creative spaces or increase organizational capacity. The Project 2 Ionic Avenue in Worcester was once a vital community asset. This historic building, desperately in need of rehabilitation, is now preparing for a complete transformation into The Creative Hub Worcester in the next 12 months. The revitalized building will serve emerging and established artists, local at-risk youth, and the community at large as a gathering place for art lovers and audiences of all ages. But only if we act now. We must raise the necessary funds through state, local, and philanthropic sources or the City of Worcester—and a neighborhood desperately in need of affordable programs and collaborative space—risks losing one of its greatest assets. Slide Four: Who is The Arts & Business Community of Boston and why are they positioned to be able to achieve this vision?

The Plan: Worcester Raise the necessary funds to renovate and enhance 2 Ionic Ave in an effort to shape the future of Worcester by revitalizing one of it’s greatest assets and establishing a unique artists community and creative space.
