Welcome to your Library How to use your Library

Entrance: LAY OUT OF THE LIBRARY Bulletin board: Features KVHS students and staff. (If your picture is in the paper please point it out to me and it will go on the bulletin board.) Specific Fiction: Bold print, Relaxed reading, Popular books, Mature and Graphic novels, LGBT and1st Nations. Magazines Comfortable seating: To be respected by all so this can remain a relaxing area to sit and read.

LIBRARY OFFICE LAY OUT OF THE LIBRARY Check in and out books. Ask questions and get help. Sign in and out I PADS. Get photocopies Sign in and out your magazines.

NEW BOOKS NEW BOOKS AS NEW BOOKS COME IN THEY ARE DISPLAYED ON THE TABLE AT THE FRONT DOOR OF THE LIBRARY. THE LIBRARIAN DOES TAKE SUGGESTIONS FOR BOOKS TO PUT ON HER ORDER LIST.

BIOGRAPHIES BIOGRAPHIES ARE IDENTIFIED BY A BLUE DOT OR A BIOGRAPHY LABLE ON THE SPINE OF THE BOOK.

Basic Questions What are the library hours? Who is your Librarian? : 8:20 to 3:30 Who is your Librarian? : Mrs. Hawkes How long are books signed out for? : Two weeks, then you can renew. Can you sign out a reference book? Only if the librarian gives permission. How much is it to photocopy? 20 cents a page if not school work How much is Bristol board? $1.00 a sheet

ATTENDANCE The students are to bring a note from their teacher that will give them permission to be in the library, if they are not with their class.

Library Etiquette Materials are to be treated with care and not re-shelved when no longer in use but put in return box. Books are signed out at the Circulation Office for a 2 week period. Please, return promptly or RENEW for a 2 week extension. Computer use: Priority is given to a class scheduled to use the library.

DIFFERENT MATERIAL IN THE LIBRARY FICTION BOOKS (NOVEL CATAGORIES: Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Historical, Mystery, Romance, Science Fiction, Thriller) NOVEL AREAS: Regular, LGBTQ, Relaxed, Bold Print, Graphic Novels, Popular books, 1st Nations & Mature) NON-FICTON BOOKS (True Facts on Events, People & Places) REFERENCE BOOKS (Encyclopedia, Atlas, General Reference books) Periodicals (Newspapers, Magazines)

Call Numbers Located on Book Spine Labels Call Numbers on the Spine labels of Fiction books appear as FIC and the first three letters of the author’s last name. Categories may also appear on the spine label. Call Numbers on the Spine labels of Non-fiction Books show a Dewey-Decimal Classification Number and the first three letters of the author’s last name. Call Numbers on Reference Book Spine labels show REF, the Dewey-Decimal Number and three letters of the Author’s last name or the First word of the Title.

List of Dewey Decimal classes The system is made up of ten main classes or categories. 000 – Computer science, information, and general works 100 – Philosophy and psychology 200 – Religion 300 – Social sciences 400 – Languages 500 – Science and Mathematics 600 – Technology and applied science 700 – Arts and recreation 800 – Literature 900 – History, geography and biography
