Grade Advancement Opportunities for Incoming Kindergarteners

What is Credit by Exam without Prior Instruction? Credit by Exam without Prior Instruction/Exam for Acceleration provides an opportunity to advance a grade level in which no prior formal instruction has been completed. Credit by Exam is designed for a very small percentage of students who have an academic and emotional need to advance. Typically less than 5% of students who attempt grade advancement are successful.

What are the eligibility requirements for a student to register for Credit By Exam? Kindergarten students must meet all eligibility requirements to register for CBE testing: 1. Student will enroll in a Klein ISD school of the upcoming school year. 2. Kindergarten students must meet the state law age requirement: – 5 years old by September 1 for Kindergarten.

What are the dates for testing? July/August Administration Monday, July 10, 2017: Round I Language Arts Wednesday, August 16, 2017: Round II Mathematics

What are the registration deadlines? The registration deadline for the July/August administration is June 2, 2017.

How is the test administered? Are the test items read aloud? For students attempting to accelerate in entire grade level, testing will be conducted in two rounds: Round I- the Language Arts test: If a student scores 80% or above on the Language Arts test the student advance to Round II testing. If a student does not score a minimum of 80%, they will not be tested in Round II. Round II- the Mathematics test Passing score requirement is 80% or higher on both tests The test is administered on paper by a trained proctor according to rules articulated by the test vendor, The University of Texas. The test items and answer choices are read aloud to students and are given time to respond.

Where will my student test? During the July (Round I)/August (Round II), students will test at the Teaching and Learning Center on Kleinwood*. *Exact times and location for testing will be sent via a notification to test letter.

After my child has taken the CBE exam can I review the exam questions for further study? The University of Texas will not allow the release of any secure CBE assessments.

When will we receive the CBE results? Results will be communicated 2-4 weeks after the exam.

Where can I access the registration form and who should receive this?
