802.16 Project Planning Committee (PPC): Next revision project IEEE 802.16 Presentation Submission Template (Rev. 9) Document Number: IEEE C802.16ppc-10/0068 Date Submitted: 2010-11-08 Source: Vladimir Yanover vladimir.yanover@alvarion.com Wonil Roh wonil.roh@samsung.com Venue: Dallas, Texas, USA Base Contribution: None Purpose: 802.16 Project Planning Committee Session #70 Notice: This document does not represent the agreed views of the IEEE 802.16 Working Group or any of its subgroups. Background: WiMAX Forum TWG timeline for Release 2 “Spec ready” means completion of compliance & test specifications Updated the OR timelines : OR 1b as Q4 ’10; “completion of definition of OR 1c” as Q2 ‘11 R2 profile timeline is official (approved by TSC)

Problem statement Completion of WiMAX Forum Release 2.0 System Profile is scheduled to Dec 2010 From Jan 2011 development of complementary documentation will start including test specifications From 16e experience, development of the documentation generates many questions on interpretation of the standard Certain problems can be discovered WiMAX TWG maintains communication with 802.16 WG to deliver requests for interpretation and problem reports Normally addressed by Maintenance TG

Proposed solution In view of that, seems reasonable to have in 802.16 WG a dedicated project to address this type of problems discovered by individual 802.16 members and by WiMAX Forum The most appropriate format of this project would be a short time revision project in Q2-Q4 of 2011 The revision project will also editorially merge previous revision 802.16-2009 and all amendments completed by that time (802.16h, 802.16j, 802.16m)
