References Abstract Conclusion The process of biodiesel production King Faisal University College of Engineering Department of Chemical Engineering “Biodiesel Production from Lipase” By: Muhammed Al-Murisi WHY BIODIESEL? WHY NOW? The increased use of biodiesel as an alternative energy source has generated a considerable focus on biodiesel. The increase in the emissions of greenhouse gases and global warming, mainly due to fossil fuel combustion, have led to increased focus on renewable energy sources and there is a lot of advantages: 1-It is Economical. 2- It is Renewable. 3-It is good for the environment. 4- The perfect alternative fuel. Abstract This poster aimed the production of biodiesel using lipase catalyst instead of a chemical catalyst. Technology for using liquid formulated lipases for enzymatic biodiesel production is new and since enzyme prices have been reduced. Enzymatic transesterification has certain advantages over the chemical catalysis of transesterification, as it is less energy intensive, allows easy recovery of glycerol and the transesterification of glycerides with high free fatty acid contents. Limitations of the enzyme catalyzed reactions include low yield, high reaction time. The kinetics using lipase enzyme usually works in moderate temperature (20-50) 𝐶𝑂 which tend to save energy. Conclusion With increasing the concerns about global warming and greenhouse gases, biodiesel can act as a perfect substitute for gasoline and diesel in the future. biodiesel is an unlimited source due to the various way that it can be produced. For example, it can be produced from Soybean, palm, Oils, and fats etc. Optimizing biodiesel processing technology is one of the most important things to meet the efficiency needed and to reduce the price of biodiesel. The process of biodiesel production Biodiesel is produced from vegetable oils or animal fats and an alcohol, through a transesterification reaction. This chemical reaction converts an ester (vegetable oil or animal fat) into a mixture of esters of the fatty acids that makes up the oil (or fat). Biodiesel is obtained from the purification of the mixture of fatty acid methyl esters. Objective The main objective is to increase the yield > 95% and increase the selectivity of biodiesel. Increasing use of energy demands depletes fossil fuels which led to an increase in energy waste. It’s an environmental alternative which meets this fuel demand. The unwanted food waste is produced in huge quantity by restaurants, houses, and food manufacturing industries. This food waste is very rich in hydrocarbons, so it could be a valuable source of biodiesel.
