James Rizkallah Engineering Period 2

 Education needed for an entry level position is a Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering  The average salary is $98,339 per year  Petroleum engineering employment rates have been on the rise since 2003 and there is no reason to think it will slow down any time soon

 A petroleum engineer focuses on the production of hydrocarbons like crude oil and natural gas  Types of things they work on daily are: -Designing equipment to extract oil and gas in the most profitable way -Developing ways to inject water, chemicals, gases, or steam into an oil reserve to force out more of the oil -Making sure that wells, well testing, and well surveys are completed and evaluated -Using computer-controlled drilling or fracturing to connect a larger area of an oil and gas deposit to a single well -Making sure that oil field equipment is installed, operated, and maintained properly

 ExxonMobil Corporate Website ExxonMobil Corporate Website  ExxonMobil is the 3 nd largest company by revenue in the world and one of the six oil and gas “supermajors”  Their main products are fuels, lubricants, and petrochemicals.  The merging of Exxon and Mobil in 1998 was the largest merger in US history, combining the two biggest companies that originated from John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil trust.

 Shell Corporate Website Shell Corporate Website  Shell is the 2 nd largest company by revenue in the world, and also one of the six oil and gas “supermajors”.  Their main products are fuels, oil, and lubricants.  Shell has the record for the world’s deepest floating oil platform with Perdido in the Gulf of Mexico at 7,999 ft (2,438 m). Perdido is as tall as the Eiffel Tower and started oil production in February of 2014

 Born September 9, 1955 in Croatia. He moved to the US in 1879  After holding several natural resource related jobs, he became an oil drilling contractor in Beaumont, Texas.  Because of his geology expertise, he believed that oil was to be found under Spindletop Hill. On January 10, 1901, oil famously erupted 200 feet in the air and continued for 9 days before it was stopped.  Lucas’s efforts led into the petroleum age and the widespread use of oil.

 Born June 21, 1909 in Beaumont, Texas, where the famous Spindletop oil field was found.  Discovered the prolific High Island oil field in Texas only six weeks out of college after graduating with a double degree in petroleum engineering and geology in  Nobody believed any oil was to be found at High Island, but he encouraged the company to keep digging deeper and risked his job for it.
