2 Job Description Petroleum engineering is all about the production of fuel for vehicles and machinery. Petrol is created through the blending and refinement of hydrocarbons, crude oil and natural gas are two most commonly used hydrocarbons. Petroleum engineering is used extract and refine these hydrocarbons in a safe and feasible way.

3 Required Training To become a petroleum Engineer you have to go to a college for 5 years and do studies and a lot of time in the classroom. Also you will need a bachelors degree to get a job. In high school you will take the normal science and math classes such as Algebra 2 and chemistry.

4 Anthony Lucas Jr. The Anthony Lucas Jr. gold medal honors distinguished achievement in the identification and development of new technology and concepts that will enhance the process in finding and producing petroleum. He was born on 9 September 1855 in Split, Austria. He was a Mining engineer, often refereed as the father of Petroleum engineering.

6 Petroleum Engineering Job Outlook Work environment- petroleum engineers work in the office or laboratory and sometimes at the drilling site but they stay there for a long period of time. What Petroleum engineers do- they design and develop methods for extracting oil and gas from deposits below the earths surface. Employment of petroleum engineers is projected to grow 26% from 2012 to 2022, faster than any other occupations.
