Montreal Montreal is the second largest city in Canada and the largest city in the province of Quebec. Originally, the city was called « Ville-Marie ». The current name of the city comes from « Mont-Royal », the hill which is located in the heart of the city.

It is located in the East of Canada, on the island of the same name (the biggest island of the archipelago of Hochelaga)

Its population is about 3,5 million with the metropolitan area. Half of the population is French, the other half is Neo-Canadian and English.

At the beginning, in the 16 th century, Montreal was a strengthened village : Hochelaga. The city of Montreal was founded in 1615 by Samuel de Champlain ; French settlers arrived in In 1701, 1300 Native Americans met the settlers to sign « La Grande Paix de Montreal ». This treaty put an end to the hostilities between Native Canadians and settlers. Samuel de Champlain

Today, Montreal is the biggest city of the province of Quebec. It is a big center of trade, of industry, culture and business.
