What is distracted driving? Distracted driving is any activity that diverts a persons attention away from the primary task of driving. Texting, using a cell phone, eating or drinking, talking to passengers, grooming, reading, using a navigation system, many different things can fall into the category of distracted driving.

Locally Drivers aged 15 – 19 have the highest percent of distracted driving accidents. 25%. Drivers age 20 – 24 have the second highest percent of distracted driving accidents. About 18%. Drivers age 25 – 29 have a statistic of about 14%.

Locally About 12% of crashes in Utah involve a distracted driver. 47% of distracted driving crashes were rear end crashes.

The Facts Texting is the most alarming distraction because it involves manual, visual, and cognitive distraction simultaneously. Reading a text takes your eyes off the road 4.6 seconds, at 55 mph that is like driving the length of a football field blindfolded.
